Comprehensive Freight Demand Data Collection Framework for Large Urban Areas (12-0529)

The paper analyses the characteristics and unique features of the freight system, the data requirements of the different modeling techniques and the roles of various data collection procedures. The analyses produced a set of findings of relevance to the design of a comprehensive freight data collection framework for large urban areas. The paper builds on these findings to identify a modular data collection framework that would enable transportation agencies to mix and match data collection efforts to match their needs and constraints.
