Call Title:
First and Last Mile Access of Rail Transit

Call Description:
Papers are requested to discuss the first and last mile access issues facing many rail transit systems. This proposal applies to broader access to and from stations, not limited specificially to the one-mile distance around stations.

Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Discussion of access issues facing rail transit providers and passengers;

- Identification of the barriers discouraging effective access to rail transit;

- Case study (ies) of best practices and exemplary rail station access design and implementation. Papers that focus on case studies and exemplary practices should include a discussion of successes and lessons learned. Examples covering rail transit systems in both North America and the rest of the world are particularly welcome.

- Formulation of recommendations and strategies to help transit service providers and stakeholders improve the first and last mile access.

Paper Submission Requirements

TRB has a single paper submittal deadline for the Annual Meeting. Papers must be in PDF format and submitted by August 1. The paper submission website will close when it is no longer August 1 anywhere in the world. Also, authors are asked to add line numbering to their papers in their word-processing program (starting with number one on each page) prior to converting to PDF to facilitate the review process. TRB recommends that authors submit their papers well before the deadline to avoid last minute complications and delays.
